The average female’s foot has increased a whole size of a period of three decades. In the beginning of the 20th century, the average woman wore only a size 3.5 to a size 4 shoe. By the 40’s, this increased to an average 5.5 and towards a 7.5 in the 1970’s. Now the average female foot size is anywhere between an 8.5 and 9 size shoe.

Biggest Recorded Shoe Size

For men, the average shoe size worldwide is a size 9 to a 12. However in the United States alone, men average a size 10.5 shoe. For men that are taller than 6’ 2” have an average shoe size of an 11 to 12. Men that are 5’ 5” or shorter in height have an average size of 7 to 9.

For a child’s growing feet, between birth and 18 months, their foot will grow to an average shoe size of 5. From there, their foot can slowly increase by a size a year. Up to the age of 8, children will than transition from junior shoes to adult. The average 16 year old has a size shoe of 7.5.
