Every person in the world enjoys having the opportunity to travel and take a vacation when they are looking for relaxation and cultural experiences. Unfortunately during your travels you may experience something known as jet lag. Jet lag is essentially when you are either behind or ahead of the time zone that you are traveling to, therefore you will either be tired or awake at inconvenient times during your vacation. Below is a list of some of the different ways that you can beat jet lag.

1. Sleep Routine

Consider changing your sleep routine before you travel and take your final destination into account. If you’re traveling west, try going to bed at a later time than normal. If you’re going east, try falling asleep earlier.

2. Sunglasses

Every human has what is known as circadian rhythm which is used to help your body detect light. If you wear sunglasses when exposed to natural and artificial light, you can change your circadian rhythm.

3. Stopovers

If you have enough time to spare, consider planning a stopover before your final destination to allow your body to naturally adjust to the time zone.

4. Stay Calm

Stress makes every aspect of life more difficult, especially sleep. Do whatever you can to make sure that you are prepared for your flight so that you do not become stressed out.

5. Daily Schedule

Eat and sleep according to the times of your final destination, this is another way to change your circadian rhythm.

6. Avoid Sleeping Medication

Although you may be tempted, taking sleeping pills can actually prevent your body from falling into a new sleep pattern.

7. Drinking Water

Dehydration is another prevalent aspect of having jet lag. Try to avoid drinking coffee or alcohol before or during your flight.

8. Comfort is Key

Ensure that you are comfortable during your flight by using headphones and eye masks so that you can easily fall asleep.

9. Physical Activity

If you’re embarking on a long flight, make sure that you get up and walk around the cabin as much as possible.

10. Outdoor Activities

Once you have landed, try doing activities that are outdoors as it will allow you to adjust to the new time zone.

11. Morning Light

If you are traveling to a location in the west, try to get more light from the morning and avoid the afternoon to help change your circadian rhythm.

12. Afternoon Light

In comparison to tip 11, seeking afternoon light can be more advantageous for your circadian rhythm if you’re traveling east.

13. Sleep

Try to get at least 4 hours of sleep during “regular” sleeping hours in the time zone that you’re in.

14. Short Trip

If you’re only spending a few days in your new location, keep up with your regular schedule at home.

15. Lost Sleep

Naps are always beneficial to ensure that you receive a sufficient amount of sleep during your travels.
