There are many different characteristics that make up a great leader; charisma, charm and social skills are all very important tools in leading successfully. There is not one single type of leader. Each individual that is in a leadership position has their own ways of influencing crowds and achieving their goals. Charismatic Leadership

This particular form of leadership relies heavily on using charm to gain a following. A leader who specializes in charismatic leadership will need to show their concern and interest in the people in order to build a trusting relationship. Participative Leadership

Participative leaders differ from charismatic leaders in that they typically act that of a facilitator rather than a dictator. They will specialize in formulating ideas and sharing information with the ultimate goal of finding a likeminded decision with his followers. This type of leader will take into consideration the opinions and ideas of the followers below him. Donald Trump is a great example of a participative leader.

Situation Leadership

The three primary characteristics of this type of leader are the consideration of the situation, the ability of the followers and the capability of the leader. It is required that a situational leader will have the ability to adjust to whichever type of limitation that is dealt. The actions carried out by situation leadership will be very dynamic based on the issues they are facing. Dwight Eisenhower would be a great example this type of leader.

Transactional Leadership

This type of leadership requires a bit less empathy and more so an eye for accomplishment. Transactional leaders are required to establish a clear chain of command. This is primarily done by motivating followers will rewards and punishments for their actions. One leader with this characteristic is Joseph McCarthy.

Transformational Leadership

This is a very unique type of leadership in that the primary focus is motivating followers via likeminded morals and ideas. Empowering followers by using their own beliefs as well as personal abilities is a huge part of a transformational leadership. Walt Disney is a great example of a transformational leader.

The Quiet Leader

This type of leadership is extremely powerful, but it requires an individual with a great deal of compassion, understanding and problem solving ability. These leaders are successful by leading by example rather than barking out orders. A common characteristic of this type of leadership includes not giving out orders, carrying out loud speeches or statements, but inspiring their followers by influencing them to do what’s right. Abraham Lincoln is a primary example of a quiet leader.

Servant Leadership

A servant leader is a very selfless leader that has an eye for compassion and love. These types of leaders will always strive to take care of the individual needs of their followers before themselves. Rather than taking their leadership as a dictator, they will instead act as a servant to their followers. Servant leaders will do everything they can to serve their followers instead of forcing their beliefs and rules upon them. George Washington is a clear example of a servant type leadership.
